BIKOTIC BIKE VALUE CALCULATOR

The value of a bike is actually very difficult to calculate. But if you drill down the 2 main variables are PRICE and the WEIGHT of the overall package. The general rule is, the lighter you want your bike, the more you will have to pay. The curve that plots this relationship is not linear, in fact the amount of grams that can be shaved off drops rapidly as you approach the technological limits of the material, whereby the price shoots up at an eye-wateringly rapid velocity!!
To this end bike manufacturers generally offer a range bikes for each model, each with a level of componentry to meet a certain price point. This makes it difficult to decide which is the right bike for you across their different models and especially difficult between different manufacturers.
This calculator aims to find some common ground between all the different bike choices out there and give you some idea of the value of your new bike, taking into account it's price and weight. (I live in the UK and work in GB Pounds - to work with different currencies set the price range variables accordingly)
RESULTS EXPLANATION: Enter the price and the wieght of the bike you are looking at buying, then press CALCULATE, a number between 0 and 100 will be displayed in the 'RESULTS' box. Using the default ranges a score of 100 would be a bike that cost £1000 and weighed 5.5kg - a very unlikely purchase!! The algorithm is designed to mark down both a cheap but heavy bike and also an expensive but very light bike. Below are some popular bikes and their 'BIKOTIC Bike Value' (BBV) scores to compare results.
