So, stage 8 of the Criterium du Dauphine has just finished - what a bloody shame for Richie Porte, the nearly man! It was a nail biting finish and a great example of why bike racing is so awesome and unpredictable.
Thoughts: Chris Froome, either he was sand bagging and trying to divert the attention away from himself pre Tour, or he was looking a bit lack luster. If the latter, what can he do in the 3 weeks before the start of the Tour that will get those long skinny legs spinning up the way we are used to seeing? Perhaps he will ride himself into it in the 3rd week, Vincenzo Nibali style...
Jakob Fuglsang, what a guy, ex-mountain biker, amazing ride to take the Dauphine.... almost to amazing? Looking for a contract....riding for Astana?? Can we trust Astana now..... I really hope we can.
It seems Richie Porte was a bit upset that the other teams ganged up on him to prevent him from winning - well, yep, that probably was the case, but lesson learned, if your wearing the yellow jersey there is nowhere to hide. If Richie is going to win this years Tour De France this is something he will have to sort out in his head....and maybe get some better climbers in his team to support him. Can he win the Tour? I would like to see it, but I have a nagging voice in my head that he can't go 3 weeks without some kind of calamity, fingers crossed for him, he has clearly worked his ass off.
